University History

Liaoning Institute of Science and Technology(LIST) is a provincial-level undergraduate university with a focus on engineering and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. The university is located in Benxi New City, Liaoning Province. Benxi is known as the capital of maple leaves, the capital of steel, and the capital of medicine in China. It is 20 kilometers away from Shenyang Taoxian International Airport. The school's predecessor was Benxi Metallurgy Higher Vocational School, and its educational history can be traced back to the Benxi County Teacher’s School established in 1907. After the liberation of Northeast China in 1948, it was renamed as Benxi Advanced Vocational School of Engineering, and was upgraded to Benxi Iron and Steel Industry College in 1958. In 1985, it was renamed Benxi Metallurgical College. In 2000, Benxi Higher Vocational College and Benxi Higher Teacher’s School were merged into Benxi Metallurgical Higher Vocational School. In 2004, the university was upgraded to a bachelor's degree school and renamed Liaoning Institute of Science and Technology.

Transformation Effectiveness

In 2015, Liaoning Institute of Science and Technology was identified as one of the first batch of undergraduate pilot universities in Liaoning Province to transform into an application-oriented university. In 2016, it was identified as a key university supported by the Ministry of Education for the construction of industry and education integration project, a pilot university of the Ministry of Education Data China "Hundred Schools Project", and a pilot university of the "Internet+Made in China 2025" industry and education integration promotion plan. In 2017, it was designated as one of the first batch of pilot universities in the "Science Ability Enhancement Plan (Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Project)" of the Ministry of Education, the first batch of pilot universities in the "Hundred Cities and Thousand Schools" of the China University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Alliance, and a demonstration school for application-oriented transformation university in Liaoning Province. In 2018, it was designated as one of the first batch of new engineering education comprehensive reform project school by the Ministry of Education, the key project school of the National Development and Reform Commission's "Three Year Action Plan for Emerging Industries", and get the title of the National May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee. In 2019, the New Engineering Project of the Ministry of Education was awarded the mid-term excellent project. In 2020, the school was awarded as the comprehensive reform of new engineering education program university by the Ministry of Education, a pilot university with the "1+X Certificate" in Liaoning Province, and the second batch of provincial military civilian integration school. In the same year, "Xinsong Robot College" and "School of Sugou Big Data" were recognized as the provincial modern industry colleges. In 2021, the National Development and Reform Commission's "14th Five Year Plan" Education Power Project with a total investment of 106 million yuan was approved to build the "Liaoning Institute of Science and Technology Digital Comprehensive Training Base". In 2022, it was obtained as the second batch of provincial demonstration universities for Party building in the new era.

Liaoning Institute of Science and Technology covers an area of 870,000 square meters, with a building area of 310,000 square meters. The original value of fixed assets is 1.054 billion yuan, of which the original value of teaching and research equipment is 228 million yuan. The library has a collection of 1.05 million books. There are 42 campus laboratories (centers), including 4 provincial-level laboratories (1 provincial-level key laboratory, 1 engineering research center, and 2 engineering laboratories), 4 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, 4 virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, 1 provincial-level innovation and entrepreneurship educational base for college students, 1 provincial-level innovation and entrepreneurship base for college students, 13 provincial-level extracurricular practical educational bases for college students, and 1 provincial-level vocational skills training demonstration base, 1 provincial-level college student entrepreneurship incubation demonstration base, 1 provincial-level innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration base, 1 provincial-level innovation and entrepreneurship college, and 1 provincial-level innovation space.

Institute-Enterprise Cooperation

Liaoning Institute of Science and Technology actively carries out Industry-College-Research cooperation, takes the lead in forming the "Liaoning Robot Industry School Enterprise Alliance", and becomes the chairman of the alliance. The university builds a stable platform for institute-enterprise cooperation, and becomes a council member of 30 typical industry-college-research institute-enterprise alliances in Liaoning Province, including the Liaoning Iron and Steel Industry-College-Research Innovation Alliance, Liaoning Heteng Technology Heat Treatment Process Equipment Industry-College-Research Alliance. Education on the History of Revolution

Liaoning Institute of Science and Technology relies on the rich and unique history of revolution resources of Benxi, using revolution culture as a carrier to promote the spirit of the Northeast Resistance League. The "Dream Building Space" exhibition hall of the Northeast Resistance League spirit education in the university has been approved with honors such as "Liaoning Provincial Resistance League Spirit Contemporary Value Research Base", "Liaoning Northeast Resistance League Spirit Research Center", "Liaoning Resistance League Research Practice Base", "Liaoning Provincial Department of Education New Think Tank Research Base", and "Benxi Patriotic Demonstration Education Base". Relying on the revolutionary history resources in the campus, it has been approved as the "Three Comprehensive Education" Comprehensive Reform Demonstration Institute (Department) of Liaoning Province's universities, the "Three Comprehensive Education" Open Base of Liaoning Province's universities, the "Three Comprehensive Education" Comprehensive Reform Demonstration Case, and the "Northeast Anti Japanese Alliance College" project to be selected as the key construction task of the "One Circle, One Belt, and Two Zones" in Liaoning Province.

Enrollment and Employment

There are 12,877 full-time undergraduate students currently in Liaoning Institute of Science and Technology, including 11,985 undergraduate students. In the past five years, there have been a total of 14,433 graduates, include 11,836 undergraduate graduates and 2,597 vocational college graduates. The employment rate of graduates has been consistently above 95% in recent years, with a total of over 11,000 students employed in enterprises and institutions, including 3,280 students employed in high-quality enterprises such as the Fortune Global Top 500 companies, China's Top 500 companies, and listed companies. The employment rate of graduates has been among the top universities in Liaoning Province for many years, and has been awarded the Liaoning Province University Employment Work Award for two consecutive years.

International Exchange

Vigorously carry out foreign cooperation and exchange, and adhere to the internationalization development strategy, Liaoning Institute of Science and Technology has established stable cooperative relationships with over 10 well-known oversea-universities from 5 countries and regions in ASEAN and Northeast Asia. The university collaborated with the Omsk State Technical University in Russia in the field of Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, with the first planned enrollment of 70 students and the actual enrollment of 68 students. The university has established cooperative relationships with the University of Silla in South Korea, Dhurakij Pundit University in Thailand, Krirk University, University of Pahang in Malaysia, University Putra Malaysia, and Whitireia New Zealand. We recruited international students from multiple countries including Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana, Russia, and more. The university is promoting international cooperation and exchange steadily, and reaching an intention to jointly build an international laboratory with the Omsk State Technical University in Russia, and reached an intention to jointly cultivate top talents and build an international laboratory with Vyatka State University in Russia.
